ISOLS Communication Skills Workshop delivery

At Sock it to Sarcoma!, we’re always looking for ways to improve care and support for people affected by sarcoma. We’re excited to share a new training opportunity : a specialized communication skills workshop for health professionals working with the sarcoma community.

This workshop aims to equip healthcare providers with the tools and techniques needed to navigate difficult conversations and provide compassionate, effective support throughout the sarcoma journey.

Workshop Highlights:

  1. Expert-Led Training: The program is facilitated by Ms Debra York, a clinical psychologist and accredited communications skills trainer, and Prof Georgia Halkett, bringing a wealth of experience in radiation therapy.
  2. Evidence-Based Approach: All content is backed by extensive research and practical application, ensuring you receive the most up-to-date and effective strategies.
  3. Hands-On Learning: Engage in real-life scenarios with skilled actors, simulating authentic interactions
  4. Understand unique challenges faced by sarcoma patients and caregivers
  • Recognize and respond to emotional cues related to anxiety, distress, anger, and depression
  • Develop strategies to support patients through their sarcoma journey
  • Enhance overall communication

Effective communication is at the heart of quality healthcare. For people diagnosed with sarcoma and their families, clear, empathetic, and informed communication from their healthcare team can make a world of difference.

This course is made its debut at the International Society of Limb Salvage in Brisbane, October 2024. If you are interested in more information about the course or opportunities in attending a workshop, please contact Professor Georgia Halkett.
