Update from Rachel Jones

Rachel has been busy over the past few months since starting work on her PhD, writing a paper, attending a conference and many other things besides. She writes:

‘Since September my UWA ethics application has been approved to study the genetics of giant cell tumour of bone. I am now applying for an amendment to broaden my ethics application to study the genetics of all sarcomas. I will also be applying for ethics approval at Hollywood Private Hospital and WA Health.

I have also completed the second semester postgraduate unit Advanced Biostatistics with a High Distinction grade. In this unit I learnt how to apply biostatistical methods in epidemiological and clinical research using modern regression. I have also completed a two day short course on R, a software program that can be used for statistics and modelling.

Also in the last few months I have completed the Ride to Conquer Cancer in October and attended the Sock it in Style Dinner in November. The ride was challenging but I loved being a part of the team in our bright jerseys and chatting to other riders along the way and telling them all about Sock it to Sarcoma. The dinner was a great night and provided a chance to meet new people, talk about my research, and also for me to learn more about what is happening in the sarcoma community.
